Time to go bowlin'

Yo, this is Nicky and I’m back at the helm after the Holiday break and now it’s time to jump into bowl season with both feet. Some of the early bowls are really tough to call as you don’t know which school is really focused on WINNING the game and what which one is just happy to be there. Who’s missing curfew, who’s going site seeing, etc. it’s almost impossible to tell unless you’re traveling with the team so I only stick to the games where you know the makeup of the schools involved. That said the tradition of Longhorns and the familiarity of the Cal Bears with the Holiday Bowl, which is played in So Cal, makes for a good opportunity so let’s get to it. In the Holiday Bowl I like the Cal Bears (+4.5) against the Texas Longhorns. This bowl is typically a shootout and I think that’s what the bowl committee looks to pit schools together that have a tendency to move the ball and score. I know Texas travels well but if the destination is not to a BCS Bowl then those numbers are substantially less. Cal fans only looking at a $58 dollar Southwest airline ticket and less than an hour in the air should have more than their share of crowd and will still be home in time to toast the New Year and watch the varsity schools play on the 2nd. All of the stat numbers are listed below for you quants, but let’s hit the lanes and get the season off to a good start. That’s the chowder, I’m Nicky, stay in the ring and keep your gloves up!

Behind enemy lines on Monday Night

Yo, this is Nicky the Fish and we’re coming off win last week taking the nasty Raiders against the Bears taking our record to 14-8 for the season, but even Fish need to take a break every once in a while so I was off last weekend for the holiday so now it’s time to get back to work. On Monday night I like the Jags (+3.5) at home against the Super Chargers. A major managerial overhall in the JVille front office will look to reap immediate dividends and with no one’s job safe I look for the team to play hard. Across the ball the coming coaching and management changes upcoming in San Diego make for a team with no direction and their seventh straight loss. That’s the first of the December chowder which will be coming in double scoops going forward, stay in the ring and keep your glove’s up!
12-5 college for the year, 9-3 in pro. If you have comments, questions on a game, or need injury and weather reports, list your question in the blog for answers. ‘Nikki the Fish’ in the Player’s Club chat room every Wednesday.
