Behind Enemy Lines in the Association

Yo this is Nicky and we gave a little cheese back on the Phoenix Suns after going 7-1 the NBA and NHL over the past week so let’s try to get back in the win column. Call me crazy but I really like the dogs on Monday evening, among them the Philadelphia 76’ers (+11) going into United Center to take on the Bulls. I know all about the Bulls and their momentum but Philly needs to hold off the Knicks or end up playing the Heat in the first round and they have one more game together. It’s a stretch that they will win the game on the court, but they should be able to stay close as eleven is a ton of lumber to lay coming down the stretch when resting players is key. Behind Enemy Lines in the Association

Yo this is Nicky and we’ve been on quite a roll as we even hit our tournament pick last night to bring our tourney record to 2-3 but we’re 7-1 outside of the NCAA over our last 8 so we’re going to stay in the Association. Tonight I like the Phoenix Suns (-4.5 buy the hook) at home against the New Orleans Hornets who played last night, went to overtime, and will be playing without their All-Star West who is out for the season. Phoenix needs to go at least 8-2 over their last 10 to have a shot of catching either the Grizzlies (8) or the Hornets (7) and a win tonight would be the equivalent of two wins so I look for the Suns to take care of business at home. Behind Enemy Lines in the NBA

Yo this is Nicky and we seem to be able to hit everything that moves OTHER than the NCAA Tournament including our two NBA games and one NHL game to go 3-0 so far this week. Let’s stay in our comfort zone with the NBA and see if we can keep it going. During this time of year I’m looking for teams that have to win going up against teams with nothing to play for and there are a couple on the table that look like there’s some value there. I like the OKC (-10.5) against the Utah Jazz as Ok city needs to hold off Denver who is charging but one or two more wins and it should solidify the 4 seed for the Thunda’. I also love the Rockets tonight who are in the midst of their typical late season push and are just two games back of Memphis for the 8th seed and are winners of 7 of their last 10 but will go on the road for their next three games so they know they have to hold serve at home in a game they should win. I know we have not done a lot of it this season but these are excellent teaser games so play them for half a unit to try and get some extra cheese on those nachos. That’s the chowder, I’m Nicky, stay in the ring and keep your gloves up!

Behind frozen enemy lines

Well, it seems once we get away from the NCAA Tournament we do ok as we hit another NBA Game last night as the Trail Blazers had it when they needed it and although they didn’t win the game they kept it within 6 and that’s all we could ask. So tonight we’re going to gather our breath and take a break from the hard wood and cool down. In the NHL I like the Clagary Flames (+1.5 for -200), a very tasty line as this is a must win battle for both clubs and should go down to the final horn. The Flames are currently underwater in the 10 spot but only one-point outside the playoffs. They’re an even .500 on the road this season but have a +12 point differential. They realize this could be their season if they drop a game to one of the clubs their chasing and should keep this game close. That’s the chowder, I’m Nicky, stay in the ring and keep your glove’s up!

Behind Enemy Lines in the Madness

Yo this is Nicky and we’re under water by two games as Washington got back doored in the final seconds and almost found themselves in overtime against Georgia. Ok so the dogs have been barking all tourney long but I think it stops this afternoon and I like Gonzaga (-1 buy the hook) against BYU. Without an inside presence the Zags, who are already playing very well, are going to be tough to beat. They really look like they’ve put it together and have play a discipline style of ball that will keep the game in control without allowing the Cougars to get those open looks from beyond the arch.

Behind Enemy Lines in the Madness First Weekend

Yo, this is Nicky and we’re 1-1 in the dance so far and gotta get above .500 so let’s get to it. In the late session I like the Washington Huskies (-5.5 buy it if you don’t get it) to beat Georgia. Washington has been on a roll including wins over Arizona and UCLA down the stretch (both tournament game winners) and they should keep the mo’ going as the Pac-10 appears to be better than people thought. That’s the evening chowder, I’m Nicky, stay in the ring, and keep your gloves up!

************************************************

Yo, this is Nicky and although it’s the best time of the year it’s also the toughest as we’re about ready to embark on the impossible, calling the NCAA tournament and do better than 65%. It will certainly be a journey but I’ve watched the first few games and it does appear that the parity in college basketball is more than evident as there’s already been one major upset and favs are having a problem making the number. With that in mind let’s get to it. In the late games I like Utah St. (+2.5) against Kansas State. The Aggies won 30 games this year and on a neutral site this one could come down to one possession. Also late, I like UCLA (+2 buy the ½ point) to beat Michigan State, a Thursday night game is right on with the normal Pac-10 schedule and I look for the Bruins to be right in sinc. Despite being a student of the analytical side most of those stats go out the window when talking about a neutral site tournament game so this is a pure talent play. Behind Enemy Lines in the Conference Tournaments

Yo, this is Nicky and we gave a unit back last night as we got ‘back doored’ last night on the final two possessions as the Pistons got the number within double digits, now we gotta make up that unit so let’s get to it. In the Conference Tournaments I like USC (-3) vs. California. The Trojans have to at least make it to the Pac-10 Finals to ensure an NCAA Tournament Bid and this game is walking distance from their campus, might as well be a home game, and in a place (Staples) that they’re familiar with. I like them only laying one possession. That’s the morning cup of chowder, I’m Nicky, stay in the ring and keep your gloves up!

Behind Enemy Lines in the NBA

Yo this is Nicky and this is the time of year that is simply great to be a hoops fan as the conference tournaments get underway just ahead of the big dance, and the NBA gets down to the final 20 games. We’ve got a whole year of data underneath our belt so let’s make some good choices and get to it. On Monday night I like the Memphis Grizzlies (-2.5) against the Oklahoma City Thunder in a very important conference game. The Grizzlies are a very good home team at 21-9 and can pull to within a half game of the Thunda with a win, and perhaps catch Portland for the 7th seed. The Grizz have won 8 of 11 and is 5-1 over their last 6. That’s the early week chowder, I’m Nicky, stay in the ring and keep your gloves up!

Behind Enemy Lines before the tourney

Yo this is Nicky the Fish and we took our first loss in four games as Philly couldn’t score in the final minute and a half and took their first loss at home in while so we gotta get our cheese back and let’s get to it. On Thursday night in college I like UCLA (+9 buy the extra .5) going into Washington in a huge Pac-10 game. Now, I’m going to be straight up wit ya that the numbers aren’t going our way on this. The Huskies are 17-1 their last 18 at home including 4-1 ATS vs. UCLA, but their last lost was to Wash St. in the hardwood version of the Apple Cup but UCLA has won 7 of 8, 4-2 on the road in a tough road conference, and if they win this they are almost assured a tie for the pack 10 title which means a long journey back has come to a close after 3-straight conference titles and final-fours. Washington could still win this game but I love getting huge lumber when my club has a good chance of actually winning on the court. That’s the chowder, I’m Nicky, stay in the ring and keep your gloves up!

Behind Enemy Lines in the Association

Yo, this is Nicky and after a win on Saturday by UCLA we’re going on 4 straight wins (3-0 college 1-0 NBA) and this late in basketball season things are starting to play true to form so let’s try to keep the momentum going. In the association I’m going ride the momentum train and take the Sixers (+2.5) to upset the Mavericks. Both teams are streaking (Mavs winners of 5 straight, Philly 6 of 7) but the home mo’ has been huge and after going 3-13 to start the season the Sixers are making a huge charge, and they may outboard the Mavs which I like as the teams shot about the same from the field. That’s the early week chowder, I’m Nicky, stay in the ring and keep your glove’s up!
12-5 college for the year, 9-3 in pro. If you have comments, questions on a game, or need injury and weather reports, list your question in the blog for answers. ‘Nikki the Fish’ in the Player’s Club chat room every Wednesday.
